The walk from the hotel was worth it. Great service, fantastic food and one of the best beers I’ve ever tasted, not sure what it’s called but there’s probably a good reason it’s served in small glasses…

We had a traditional Christmas dinner here and it was excellent. The staff decorated the table and the food was fantastic. It was a great experience for our visiting relatives. I've eaten here many times and it's always great. Highly recommend!

I went to Zur Alten Töpferei based on all the good reviews and I was truly impressed. I called in advance to make a booking, arrived early and Patrick led me to my table, with a personalised sign to confirm it was reserved. I chose a mixed German ‘antipasti’ platter - highlight for me was a fried piece of blutwurst with a crisp coating - utterly delicious. Next was the biggest serving of Schweinshaxe, glorious in its crackling and served on potato puree and sauerkraut. The (onion?) gravy it came with was perfect. Finally it was time for apfelstrudel with the most delicate vanilla sauce that matched it beautifully. All this was washed down with the restaurant’s own beer, Gulasch Alt, one of the best alt beers I have tasted, which matched the warm hearty flavours of the starter and main course. Finally, a digestif, the local killepitsch. Truly a five star service from start to finish, service was flawless and friendly, plates were removed without me noticing. No trip to Lohausen should be done without a visit to Zur Alten Töpferei.

Nice German food, the fish with rice is nice, beef burgers is great. Schnitzel meat is juicy, tender with a crispy golden-brown texture. Rumpsteak is excellent. Apple dessert is nice too. Advance booking is needed, very full during dinner time.

Visited here for a business meal and we ordered the recommended dishes to share. All dishes were great, except for the chicken breast that’s a bit too dry. And all main courses came to the table together without anything being too cold. The service provided by the senior waiter was a very good plus and he’s also very humorous. We were much entertained by his words. This restaurant was suggested by the stars from a nearby beer house where only beer was available. It’s a good choice for the night.
